The Parity Hedge Strategy comes with a legend behind it. To this day, no one really knows if the story behind the strategy is real or a just an urban legend, but we’ll take a look at the merits of the strategy itself.

Craps is known as the world's most common dice game and it is played, with varying rules and sizes of table, in virtually every casino on the planet. Craps is a game of chance rather than skill, and with a low house advantage — around 1.4%, which makes it harder to beat than blackjack but easier than roulette — even novices can win. THE ULTIMATE CRAPS STRATEGY GUIDE. There is nothing quite like Craps, especially at a hot table where Craps players are winning together. The camaraderie that goes with playing toward a common goal makes Craps the most social game in an offline or online casino, and the cheers, high fives and rowdiness when the shooter makes it clear that the players are having fun. The best craps strategies focus on the bets with the lowest house edges. You can safely ignore one-roll bets with high edges to the house such as any 7 (16.67 percent) or any craps (11.11 percent). You also can ignore the multiroll hardway bets (9.09 percent on hard 6 or 8, 11.11 percent on hard 4 or 10) and the place bets on 4 or 10 (6.67.

It supposedly started in the 1970s, when a group of physicists from the Nevada Test Range discovered a strategy that flips the odds in craps to the player’s favor. In an attempt to find the funding to go after the casinos with and keep the strategy a secret at the same time, they partnered with a Japanese gambling whale that was more than happy to participate.

After teaching him the strategy, this gambling whale supposedly won millions from the casinos in just a few days and then was never seen or heard from again. Did he get away with the millions he won, or did he come to a morbid end for taking the casinos to the cleaners? No one knows, but most believe it was the latter.

The Craps Parity Hedge Strategy that was developed, involved a series of steps to take depending specific circumstances at the table, but no formal outline, or directions, were ever found. What exists today, as the steps within the strategy, were put together from the casino’s security tapes of the gambling whale at play.

What’s intriguing about this strategy, is that it replicates the same type of strategies used by hedge funds and professional investors where they diversify their investments and ‘straddle’ both sides of a bet to protect against big loses from occurring.

It works best starting this strategy on ‘cool’ to ‘cold’ tables, which are easy to find since craps tables usually run cool to cold about 70% of the time. (If you need help identifying cold tables, read the post on ‘Assessing Craps Tables’.)

Three words of caution before we take a detailed look at this strategy;

  1. This strategy is NOT recommended for novice craps players as it involves multiple steps and a good understanding of the game of craps
  2. You will need a bit larger bankroll to fund this strategy than some of the simpler strategies in use
  3. You may need to read through it a couple of times to fully understand it

THE PARITY HEDGE STRATEGY (Examples based on a $10 minimum table)

There are 3 distinct, but interdependent stages to this strategy

STAGE 1 (A) – (Goal – To establish Don’t Pass & 2 Don’t Come ODDS bets)

ON THE COME OUT ROLL

  • Place $10 on BOTH the PASS LINE & the DON’T PASS LINE
    • By placing both, you’re protecting your DP bet since there are 8 ways to lose and only 3 ways to win your DP on the Come-Out roll. (let’s see how it works
      • (2) or (3) – Lose your $10 PL, Win your $10 DP (replace your PL bet)
      • (7) or (11) – Win your $10 PL, Lose your $10 DP (replace your DP bet)
      • (12) – Lose your $10 PL, Your $10 DP is a push ($10 at risk here) (replace your PL bet)
      • (4), (5), (6), (8), (9) or (10) – Both the PL & DP move to the number rolled

ONCE THE POINT IS ESTABLISHED

Craps online, free

  • Place DOUBLE ODDS ($20) on your Don’t Pass bet
  • Place $10 on BOTH the COME & the DON’T COME before the next roll
    • Again, by placing both, you’re protecting your DC bet (let’s look at the outcomes this time)
      • (2) or (3) – Lose your $10 Come, Win your $10 DC (replace your Come bet
      • (11) – Win your $10 Come, Lose your $10 DC (replace your DC bet)
      • (12) – Lose your $10 Come, Your $10 DC is a push ($10 at risk here) (replace your Come bet)
      • (7) – If a (7) is rolled at this point
        • Win $10 Come, Lose $10 DC
        • Lose $10 Pass Line, Win 10 Don’t Pass Line
        • WIN your DON’T PASS ODDS
        • (4), (5), (6), (8), (9) or (10) – Both the Come & DC move to the # rolled

ONCE YOUR COME & DC MOVE TO A NUMBER

  • Place DOUBLE ODDS ($20) on your Don’t Come bet
  • Place $10 on BOTH the COME & the DON’T COME again before the next roll
    • (2) or (3) – Lose your $10 Come, Win your $10 DC (replace your Come bet)

ONCE YOUR 2nd COME & DC MOVE TO A NUMBER

  • Place DOUBLE ODDS ($20) on your 2nd Don’t Come bet
    • Now if a (7) rolls
      • You LOSE your PL and 2 Come bets (-$30)
      • You WIN your DP and DC bets (+$30) Net $0
      • You WIN your DP and DC DOUBLE ODDS bets (WINNINGS dependent on numbers rolled)

The above is the basic structure and ‘set up’ of the Parity Hedge Strategy. You’re attempting to get 3 Don’t bets up by avoiding the pitfalls of the DP and DC and establishing ODDS that are paid out at true odds payouts.

In addition, most players 7-Out in 6 rolls or less since, on average, the 7 shows in 1 out of every 6 rolls. This strategy positions you to take advantage of this which happens approximately 70% of the time.

STAGE 1 (B) – (Deploy a reverse 5 count)

Stage 1B of the Parity Hedge Strategy is using a REVERSE 5-COUNT system. The original 5 count system was developed by a famous craps player, Frank Scoblete (The Captain) and was developed for playing the ‘right side’ of betting on the craps tables.

For our purposes, we’re using the same theory, but for the don’t side of betting the craps tables and we’re taking action when the 5 count is reached.

THE REVERSE FIVE COUNT

Starting with the COME OUT roll above in STAGE 1A

  • COUNT #1
    • When your PASS Line & DON’T PASS Line bets move to a number
    • Any (2), (3), (11), (12), or (7) rolled prior to the Point being established DOES NOT count
  • COUNT #2 THROUGH #5
    • Are the next 4 rolls regardless of craps numbers being rolled
    • You’re continuing to perform the steps in STAGE 1A during these 4 rolls
  • AFTER ROLL #5
    • REMOVE ALL ODDS BETS from your DP and DC bets
    • DISCONTINUE establishing Come/DC bets
      • Do this regardless of whether or not you’ve established all 3 points

At this point, you wait until the shooter 7s-Out or Hit his/her Point

  • If the shooter 7s-Out, start the system over from the top
  • If the shooter make his point
    • Place DOUBLE ODDS on any remaining DC bets you have on the table
      • Most shooters are trying to roll a 7 on the Come Out
    • Remove your ODDS bets once the point is established again

STAGE 2 (Poised to capitalize on the ‘Right Side’

If you followed the direction and started out on a cold or cool table, you should have winnings from the casino in your rack, are now able to absorb more risk in your betting and move to Stage 2 of the strategy.

No tables stay cold forever, and at this point, if your count gets to #6 for the same shooter and a point is in play, you may be on the verge of hot shooter.

  • Add SINGLE ODDS to your Come Bets and Place Bet remaining numbers
  • Utilize a ‘Collect & Press’ or ‘2 Hits & Down’ strategy on your Come & Place bets

You can alter the above to fit your risk tolerance and bankroll, but should not start STAGE 2 until you have casino winnings in your rack.

STAGE 3

Stage 3 of the Parity Hedge Strategy involves betting the Field which comes with a higher house edge along with higher risk. Therefore, you DO NOT start Stage 3 until you have at least $300 in casino winnings in your rack.

With this part of the strategy, you’re looking to take advantage of streaks of Field numbers coming out.

StrategyBest

WHEN THE FIRST FIELD NUMBER IS ROLLED

  • Place $10 on the Field
    • If a non-Field number is rolled, wait until the next Field number is rolled and start over
    • If a Field Number is rolled, press your winnings (now $20 field bet)
  • Repeat the steps above until you have 3 hits in a row ($40 win)
  • Pocket the winnings and start over

While the Parity Hedge Strategy is more complex than other strategies, you can see the merits of a strategy like this.

While anything can happen, if you can make ‘some’ money on the down (cold) side, maximize your winnings on the upside, plus hit a few streaks on the field along the way, you can see how you could accumulate several hundred dollars very quickly with this strategy.

As always, it’s recommended that you practice with this strategy and double check that your bankroll is sufficient to support it before ever putting real money on the table.
